The backup is the most popular guy on every football team. If the starter is stinking up the place, the backup is seen by every fan as the savior for their team. Let's list a few examples: Brian Griese in Chicago, Sage Rosenfelds in Houston, Vinny Teataverde in Carolina *This is only true if the starter is David Carr, otherwise Vinny is the guy the fans want out of there* Kellen Clemons in New York. These are just the examples this 2007 season, but it is a debate that happens every year around the NFL.
Unfortunately, the backup is rarely as good as the starter, if he was he would be the starter and not the backup. So which backups are really worth it to their teams, the guy who can come in and get a W or two when the starter is out.
