As the possible trade to the Cowboys seems less and less likely, the Titans are in a bind with Pacman Jones. He has a huge salary this year; $6 million guaranteed, thanks to former Titans GM Floyd Reese who sounds much smarter on ESPN than he ever proved as GM, and it's clear his rejoining the Titans would be a huge distraction for the team for several reasons.
First, he'll divide the Titans' locker room. Some guys will welcome him back because they know how much talent he has and some guys genuinely like him, but other guys will point out that they made the playffs without him and all the attention he brings for his actions.
Second, the players have heard his comments about wanting to play for the Cowboys and how he has enjoyed his time in Nashville but it's time to move on. He can get away with saying that kind of stuff privately but once it's public and other players start getting asked aboutnhis comments if he's back in Nashville, they will resent the attention.
Third, the front-office has stated they are moving on without him and are making their plans as if he is not a member of the team. Jeff Fisher is very good with the media but he is tired of answering questions about Pacman, his latest comment; "Nothing has changed,'' Titans Coach Jeff Fisher said Thursday. "That's all I'm going to say on the subject.''
So what do they do? The best scenario is another team wants Pacman and will force the Cowboys to up their offer for Pacman. This doesn't seem likely, every team Pacman and his agents have mentioned, like the Lions and Patriots quickly say they want nothing to do with him. The best option os that he has another off-the-field incident and Roger Goodell bans him for good. If that happens they owe him no money and they don't have to face any scrutiny if they don't get a good return on a trade.
