Ryan Fowler and his suspension

Titans fans, and the local Titans pr department, I mean the Nashville media, have been wringing their hands over what was going to happen to linebacker Ryan Fowler and his looming 4 game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. (aside, raise your hand if you knew who he was or what he looked like before you saw the picture. As I thought, no hands)There has been much wailing and whining about how unfair this is and how the NFL is picking one guy and how the NFL is just flexing some muscle. The biggest problem according to the pr department, I mean the Nashville media, is that situations like Fowler's are supposed to be confidential and no one outside the league office is supposed to know the possible consequences yet someone told Chris Mortensen about this months ago. They are also upset because the NFL has yet to act on this case and so far the NFL hasn't told Fowler or his attorney just what evidence they have on him to warrant this type of punishment. The pr department believes that all the NFL has on Fowler is some phone calls and text messages between him and convicted steroids dealer David Jacobs. Jacobs is unable to answer further questions from the NFL, the FBI, Texas law enforcement or Fowler's lawyer because he and a female companion were found dead in his Plano, TX homein June, the result of a murder-suicide. The Titans pr department has overlooked the fact Jacobs said that he supplied Fowler with drugs before and after the 2006 season, and he gave the N.F.L. names of players who bought steroids from him. (Damn facts, they always get in the way!) Fowler was a member of the Cowboys in 2006, he signed a free-agent contract with the Titans in 2007 and has been a starter since.

Now that training camp os almost over and the regular season just a few weeks away (hell yeah!!!) the Titans are looking for an answer about Fowler's situation and the NFL has not been in a hurry to supply one. That hasn't stopped Fowler from popping off about it and his latest quote will probably get Goodell's attention, and not in a good way but in a Pacman Jones/Michael Vick kind of way.

Said Fowler: "“Until I hear anything else, that’s the way I’m looking at it right now, I’m focusing on football. Until I hear anything else, I’ll assume it’s over.”

Ryan, didn't your mother ever tell you what happens when you assume? Does ASS out of U and ME ring any bells?

From the New York Times (so you know is has to be right)

Titans linebacker Ryan Fowler said he considered his steroids case with the N.F.L. to be over.
Fowler said Wednesday that he had not heard from the league since requesting a meeting to address allegations that he bought performance-enhancing drugs from a Texas-based steroids dealer in 2006. The N.F.L. sent him a letter in June stating he faced an investigation and possible suspension.
Fowler said he assumed the investigation had ended and that no punishment was planned.
“Until I hear anything else, that’s the way I’m looking at it right now,” Fowler said after practice. “I’m focusing on football. Until I hear anything else, I’ll assume it’s over.”
Fowler was linked to the convicted steroids dealer David Jacobs, who was found dead with a female companion in his Plano, Tex., home in June. The police have called the deaths a murder-suicide.
Jacobs told The Dallas Morning News before he died that he supplied Fowler with drugs before and after the 2006 season, and he gave the N.F.L. names of players who bought steroids from him.
The N.F.L. did not immediately respond to an e-mail message from The Associated Press.
Fowler has denied using performance-enhancing drugs.
“No matter what anybody says, there’s going to be people who automatically assume guilty until proven innocent, which is sort of a tough pill to swallow,” Fowler said. “Now that it’s over, or seems to be over, I’m trying to move on past it.”

Ryan Fowler is a nice player but he is not a household name. Most football fans, even Titans' fans have no idea what number he wears much less what he looks like.
Media here are talking about how this is ruining his rep. Huh? The rep of him being a good special-teamer and solid linebacker?
