Kerry Collins to be the starter

Despite what Vince Young believes, he won't be the starter when his left knee is healthy. Coach Jeff Fisher made that official on Monday, when he declared Kerry Collins would be the starter as long as the Titans are playing well. Last week Young said he expected to be the starter when he returned from his knee injury, Young saying they drafted him to play QB and that's what he would do when he was healthy.

The announcement came a day after Collins led a 24-7 win over the Bengals, and after a tumultuous week in which Young kept the Titans in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.“I don’t know what Vince’s condition is, but as long as we’re winning, Kerry is our starting quarterback,” Fisher said. “You saw by the way he played, and in light of everything, it just makes sense to go with that.’’Fisher’s stance didn’t come as a huge surprise — he hinted as much last week.Tucked into the announcement, however, is a message to a player who’d been viewed as untouchable since the Titans made him their first-round pick in 2006. The message: No player is bigger than the team.Fisher said he had yet to inform Young, who suffered a sprained left knee late in the season opener. Last week Young, who has started 29 games and missed only two because of injuries, said he expected to get his job back when he was healthy.Fisher wouldn’t say whether his decision had anything to do with the events of last week, when Young initially refused to re-enter the game, then ignored the team’s request to get an MRI on his knee the following day.“I don’t have to go into specifics as to how I came to the decision, it’s just the way we are going,’’ Fisher said. “We are going to get Vince back and work with him and get him back involved in the offense, but Kerry is going to go ahead and play for us until he struggles or until something else happens.“(Young) has to get back. He is eventually going to be under center for us. When that happens, I don’t know. But right now Kerry is our quarterback.’’

The most interesting part of this situation, Fisher let Young know the news the same way I found out, in his press conference and said he had yet to talk to Young about it even though Young was at the team's facility today doing his scheduled rehab on his knee. Something tells me this isn't the end of Fisher/Young.
