Young may watch game from coaches' box

When the Texans visit LP Field on Sunday Kerry Collins will be the starter and Vince Young will be a backup. Coach Jeff Fisher hasn't said whether Young will be the #2 or the #3 QB or if he will an inactive. Whatever his role is for the Titans on Sunday, he probably won't be on the sidelines, he'll probably be up in the coaches box. The quarterback stayed at home last weekend receiving treatment on his knee. He watched practice on Wednesday and was in meetings. Fisher said he has no timetable for Young's return, which he added depends on how the quarterback's knee heals.
"Whatever we do with Vince on Sunday will be what's best for Vince," Fisher said. Fisher believes that this will give Young a chance to learn the game and to watch the game from a different vantage point.

Mike Florio of profootballtalk.com has a much different take on Fisher's decision.

Writes Florio;

"Really? That’s the reason? Helping him learn the game? No young quarterback, to our knowledge, has ever watched the game from the coaches’ box in order to learn the ropes. The best place for a young quarterback to get ready is on the sidelines, where the interactions between the starter and his teammates, and between the starter and the coaches, can be observed.
We think that, in this case, moving Young off the sidelines would be aimed at protecting Young from any of the yay-hoos who might try to harass him from the stands.
The Titans face the Texans at home on Sunday, and it was the Titans’ home crowd whose boos of Young sparked a chain of events that ended with a Monday night APB – and a police negotiator on standby. Surely, Fisher doesn’t want to expose Young to anyone in the seats near the team bench who might be inclined to try to press the softened buttons of a player who might be perceived as a rich, whiny quitter."

While this may be Fisher's reason for doing this, I see a bigger problem with this possible decision; seperating Young from his teammates.

It's unusual for an injured player to not be on the sidelines during the game. The ones that aren't are guys who have very serious injuries requiring major surgery or time off their feet. The one place most NFL players want to be is with their teammates on gameday, ask any retired player and the thing they always miss more than anything else about the game is not bieng in the locker room and around their team mates. For a coach to move his player away from their teammates is a curious move, and one that I just don't understand.

I think VY can handle the fans getting on him.
On the sideline he move around, joke with his teammates, have them stick up for him, tell him not to pay attention to some drunken idiot.
In the coaches box he's up there basically by himself. The coaches won't worry about what people are saying, they'll be busy coaching.
I just don't understand the move at all.
BTW-thanks again for having a civil discussion about this, it would never happen over in the trailer park.

the trailer park......holy fkkkkkkkk LMAO!!!! good one babe, big time!!

he's fragile right now, mind, body & soul. maybe the coaches feel they are keeping him outta harms way. keep the focus on the game & off VY so he can breath some.

he's gotta get back to good.

maybe this is the teams way of saying let's play ball, let's stay focused on the team right now & give the media something else to talk about except for Vince.

trust me i never agree with Mike, actually i can't stand the mofo nor do i like his site.....it's borderline trailer park (lmfao).

however, he did have a good call on what he said.

i see your points too...almost the "make him feel wanted, part of the team" i dunno, do you think that's what he needs right now?
maybe he needs some downtime, away from the limelight, the bullshit, the haters, the whiners, the ppl. that call him a flash in the pan. i'm not so sure he should even be at the game, then again, the media will only FLAP about that.

See what I put up about Tarvaris Jackson in Minnesota, it sounds familar.
The media will talk about it, probably more because he's not with his teammates and will wonder why he needs to be protected and if by himself is the best way to protect him.

Is LisaH a refugee from the trailer park?

I'll probably put something up about it on Sunday or Monday. The frustrating thing is there is NO good answer on what to do with VY. Anything the Titans could work great or it could blow up in their faces.

I am going to write about the Titans maybe having the best record in the AFC at the middle of October. It'll be up tonight or in the morning.
