EA may auction off cover of Madden, curse goes the highest bidder

National Football League players may get the chance to pay to become the latest victim of the ``Madden Curse.''
Peter Moore, president of video game-maker EA Sports, said discussions are taking place within his company that could have the front cover of its biggest-selling ``Madden NFL'' football game sold to the highest bidder, with all proceeds going to the United Way, the NFL's charity partner.
The cover, which has featured a top NFL player since 1999, has also become associated with bad luck. Many of those adorning the jacket cover of the most-popular video game in history suffered a drop in performance, injuries or worse.

Seems like a great idea, now EA can blame the players who bid to put themselves on the cover for the curse instead of them for picking the guy. Will opposing players, or more likely fans, bid just to put someone on the cover who they want to get hurt or have a bad season? Hopefully not, no one who calls themselves a fan wants to see a guy get hurt but the possibility is now there for this to happen.
Who got the worst of the curse? Depends who you ask, Eagles fans would say Donovan McNabb who was lost for the season the year he was on the cover, Seahawks fans say Shawn Alexander, or as Deion calls him, The Tiptoe Burglar for his running style and the fact that he should have worn a mask to get his checks.
But, so far it has to be Michael Vick. He blew his knee in the preseason the year he was on the cover which helped get Dan Reeves fired when the team went 5-11 without him and then there was his conviction on dog-fighting in 2007. Vince Young, he was benched this year and there are whispers that he'll never play again. The most ironic cover goes to Lord Favre. Lord Favre is on the cover in his Packers jersey despite being traded to the Jets, he hasn't gotten hurt yet this season although some believe he has to be hurt the way he's playing. He is however having a mediocre to poor season.

As an Eagles fan I would think you believe more than anyone. D-Mac got a sports hernia in the first game of the season and after 8 games finally got surgery after getting hurt in the Dallas game. He was out the final 7 games and the Eagles finished last in the NFC East. They were another Super Bowl loser who didn't make the playoffs the next season, yeah the curse is real.
