Someone please hire Floyd Reese to run your franchise into the ground

Former Titans GM Floyd Reese is continuing to do all he can to get another GM job in the NFL. After being fired by the Titans, he can claim he resigned all he wants, Bud Adams made the 2nd best move he's ever made as owner by ridding the Titans of Reese. The best thing he has done is move the Titans to NashVegas.

Reese made a habit of drafting buys that other teams wouldn't, and drafting on "upside". While no GM is perfect some of Reese's draft picks were reaches at best. He will be best remembered for draft picks in particular; Kevin Dyson and Pacman Jones.

In 1998, the Titans passed on Randy Moss and drafted WR Kevin Dyson because of Moss's "character issues". They weren't the only team to pass on Moss but they were the only ones to draft another WR instead of Moss. Dyson had a decent career for the Titans, he caught the pass that almost tied up Super Bowl against the Rams. He went to the Panthers in the salary cap purge, blew out his Achilles and never played again. He lives in the NashVegas area and does a local sports show after each Titans game.

And then there is Adam "Pacman" Jones, just the fact that he drafted him should disqualify Reese from ever getting another GM job. The Titans had just come off a 5-11 season in 2004 and had the 6th overall pick in the draft. Under the guidance of Reese, the Titans had signed several players to big contracts that they knew one day they would have to dump to get under the cap. So in 2004 that day came. The Titans dumped salary and with that salary dumped guys like Derrick Mason, Samari Rolle. Reese had decided that the Titans had one more Super Bowl run in them and decided to hang onto players and then subject the team and the fans to several years of terrible teams. In 2005, Reese and Fisher both new their jobs were on the line and they had to get things going in the right direction fast so they decided to take Pacman. The rest is history.

Now that Floyd has shown people that he can sound very smart on tv, and I have to admit, he's much better on ESPN than I thought he would be, he wants back in. He floated his name out there for the Lions job saying; ''If I had William Clay Ford's number, you'd be hearing a dial tone right now.''

Now he's doing the same thing for the Browns job, except it's not open, neither Phil Savage nor Romeo Crennel have been fired. But Floyd is still shooting off at the mouth offering the kind of candor he never showed while the Titans GM.

Quotes are from the Akron Beacon.

''When I look at organizations and potential jobs, you always look at do they have what it takes to win. That's an owner willing to invest, the facility, the stadium, the fan base,'' Reese said. ''Cleveland's got all of that.
''Have they won the way they wanted to since their rebirth? No, they haven't. Is that something that can be fixed? All you've got to do is look at the Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins to say, 'Yeah, it can be fixed.' ''

Reese said he would evaluate the state of any franchise that approaches him.
''You have to evaluate everything from top to bottom,'' he said. ''My impression and from the league's perception, Cleveland is probably one of the classier organizations. At least as an outsider looking in, they're trying to do everything right. They do everything first class.''
Reese wondered if the Browns are as bad as their record, especially after offseason trades brought high-priced defensive linemen Shaun Rogers and Corey Williams, quarterback Derek Anderson was given a new contract and free-agent receiver Donte' Stallworth was signed to a deal that included $10 million guaranteed.
''They made a large investment in the offseason to try to get better. Did that pay off? I'm not sure it did. You have to evaluate why,'' Reese said. ''You won 10 games, you have a Pro Bowl quarterback and receivers, now you're looked at differently than an expansion club. The schedule gets harder, draft choices are not as good, your opportunity to pick up players off the waiver wire is not as good.
''There's a point the players have to understand that you have to notch it up one more notch.''
Reese also looks at the Browns' 2-0 record on Monday night, especially their 35-14 victory over the New York Giants (11-2).
''That's frustrating. A team that can beat the New York Giants, then the Giants run off seven in a row. You've got to say, 'Wait a minute, what happened to that team that played on Monday night?' '' Reese said.
No matter how he assesses the Browns overall, Reese thinks that the team has major assets in Anderson and Brady Quinn, both on injured reserve.
''It's hard to get one quarterback you consider a franchise quarterback,'' Reese said. ''At least when you look at the contract they gave D.A. and the drafting of Brady Quinn in the first round, you're saying to the world you think they're both franchise quarterbacks. That's indeed a luxury. Where you go with it is another issue. But at least at the most important position in professional sports they appear to be loaded.''

With Floyd Reese, it's buyer beware.

He is and he sounds desperate, I think he wants to prove the Titans wrong for letting him go.
