Didn't buy playoff tickets? No more PSLs

When the Carolina Panthers first hit Charlotte they were a great success and they still are. They have a good fan base that has continued to show up at their games even when they are bad, like last year.

This year the Panthers were good and hosted a playoff game which was soldout. Now that Panthers fans are in the offseason and get to debate whether Jake Delhomme should be the QB nexgt year, the team is giving them a present to thank them for the support.

The Carolina Panthers are revoking PSLs from fans who didn't buy playoff tickets.
Letters started arriving last week via certified mail giving ticket holders that news.
As part of the deal with people who buy permanent seat licenses, season ticket holders are required to buy playoff tickets.

The letter reads in part; "Due to your past support, the Carolina Panthers, under no legal obligation, hereby offer you the opportunity to reinstate your account by paying a reinstatement fee.” Thanks Mr. Richardson, you a really caring owner.

The amount of the fee depends on the price of the tickets. For one PSL owner, it came to $228.
The letters say the Panthers must receive the reinstatement payment by the close of business on Friday. Otherwise, the team would permanently cancel the PSL account, and owners would lose the money they paid for them – in some cases thousands of dollars. In the end, keeping a PSL means paying hundreds for something that already cost thousands – and pay it now, even though some people couldn't afford the playoff tickets a few weeks ago.
The Panthers aren't releasing the specific number of people losing their PSLs. They do, however, say this year's PSL losses are comparable to the number of revocations in previous years with playoff games.

Like everything else right now, some expect the team to take the economy into account for why they didn't buy tickets for the playoffs, if nothing else more than just to the end of January. The Panthers probably aren't the only team with this policy, it would be interesting to know if other NFL teams do this and what if any backlash they are getting because of it.

I think most teams do it, it's a way to keep a steady flow of fans. For some reason the Panthers are getting some innk about it right now. I think the Titans do it or they do give PSL holders first chances to get playoff tickets. The prices go up, double usually, but you do have tickets.
