LenWhale is getting shape, it's a contract year

I may have to stop using one of the all-time great nicknames; LenWhale. It has been one of the most appropriate nicknames since White was drafted out of USC in 2006. One of the knocks on White was that he was lazy and wouldn't put in the extra work to keep himself in shape and wouldn't do the little things. In his three plus seasons with the Titans he did nothing to change that each off-season when he let his weight balloon out of control. Although he was listed at 240 during the season, it was evident that he weighed more.

In the playoff game against Baltimore, he was the perfect back for the Baltimore defense; a big bruising back who wasn't going to make anyone miss and wasn't going to run outside.

But now all that may be changing, according to the Tennessean's Jim Wyatt; LenWhale is training hard with his uncle and personal trainer, Herman White. According to his uncle, he's working out in his hometown of Denver, where he's running hills, trying to get quicker and having a personal chef prepare his meals.

Last week he weighed in at 236 pounds, down about 4 pounds from his weight at the end of the season, Herman White said. His nephew plans to be around 230 pounds next month when he reports to Baptist Sports Park for the team's offseason conditioning program, he said.

"He's been forced to believe he needed to be a big bruiser, so his weight wasn't a focus for him in the past in terms of monitoring it,'' Herman White said. "The pounding he was going to take he was going to need the size. But he has changed his thought process on that … and he wants to be able to do more than run in between the tackles. And if you see him he looks noticeably thinner."

I'm glad LenDale is deciding to keep himself in better shape, it can only prolong his career.

I hope he is doing it to help himself physically in the long run, not just because his contract is up after next season.

That is a great moniker. If his uncle is a personal trainer, it makes you wonder why he didn't do this sooner.

I first read he was doing it I was impressed, then I found out it's a contract year. It doesn't really matter, it should help him to be in better shape.
