The QB for the Titans next season is still uncertain. Both Kerry Collins and Vince Young have been the starter and have proven they can win. Coach Jeff Fisher has said he wants Kerry Collins back, and according to Collins, wants Collins to be the starter. No one from the Titans organization has said they definitely want Collins to be the starter and according to Collins, talks with his agent have been slow and unproductive.
Now, 3rd string QB has told Terry McCormick of the Nashville City Paper that the Titans want him back also. According to Simms, the Titans' front office has contacted his agent Tom Condon and team representatives have made a point to let them know of their continued interest in re-signing him.
"I do believe they have had some preliminary talks,” Simms said. “They reached out to my agent a little bit and contacted him, and I’ve had people reach out to me in the organization, too. To me, they’ve gone above and beyond by basically calling to say I was still on their radar and that they’d like to get something done.”
"I’m kind of just sitting back and waiting for everything to play itself out. Like I said all season long, I love Nashville, I love the Titans and the organization, and I definitely would favor going back there,” Simms said. “But I do want to make sure the situation is somewhat suitable for myself as well. I’m really just kind of sitting back and seeing what happens over the next few weeks.”
Simms says he is OK with coming in as a backup with perhaps the chance to eventually become a starter. What else is a guy who has been out of the league for 2 years going to say? Simms showed that he has the skills to be an effective QB in the league when he was in Tampa and in the few opportunities he got with the Titans this season. He is going to be in demand for the simple reason that too many NFL teams have crappy starting QBs and/or crappy backup QBs. One team that is reportedly interested in Simms is the Bears, he would certainly be an upgrade over sexy Rexy as a backup. Dallas will probably take a look, Brad Johnson proved that he can't get it done in the NFL anymore.
Not lost in all this posturing by the unsigned QBs is what do the Titans do with the only QB under contract, Vince Young? He certainly isn't going to accept the backup role without at least getting the chance in OTAs, mini-camps and training camp to be the starter. He's making starter money so he needs to get the chance to prove that he can still be the starter, but there are questions about his commitment to learning how to be a QB and not an athlete and about his overall attitude. Will he be the guy Titans' fans saw on the sidelines seeming uninterested in what was happening on the field or will he be the leader that he has shown he can be when he was the starter?
Worst case scenario for the Titans is they lose both Collins and Simms and have to start all over at the backup QB position.

huh! i guess it will come down to the toss of the dice!
After what he did this season, I don't know how they couldn't bring back Collins...Young seems like such a risk to me...
I think it comes down to VY. If he proves that he can be the starter and/or that he can be a backup they can count on they'll let Simms and/or Collins go. But if they have questions they have to sign Collins and/or Simms.
Between this and Haynesworth GM Mike Reinfeldt is going to earn his money.
It's a risk either way.
Do you pay Collins based on 2008 performance or on the fact that he's 38 and has 1 or 2 years left and neither of those will probably be as good as 2008.
Is this the make or break year for VY? I think absolutely. He's gonna get a helluva lot of money next year, they have to see if he's worth it.
KERRY COLLINSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
nice deal he got too BTW, sorry, you have to catch up on all the FA stuff u missed !
no worries, fans here are happier they signed KC than they are sad they lost Big Al.
