In a move that has other NFC East teams, especially the Redskins a little unhappy, Roy Williams' agent Jordan Woy has asked that the Cowboys release his client by today so he can sign with another team.
The Cowboys have made Williams available for trade but the market has been slow, largely because teams believe the club will eventually release him. Williams is scheduled to count $6.6 million against the 2009 salary cap.
If the Cowboys trade or cut Williams, they will save roughly $2 million against the cap.

What's the holdup? Williams can't cover anyone, every Cowboy fan remembers Santana Moss blowing right by him everytime the Cowboys play the Skins. He's still pretty good in run support but a younger, cheaper player can be had to so the few things that Williams is still able to do.
He's not a real leader so that shouldn't be stopping them from letting him go. LEt him go and see what he finds out there, I doubt it will be very much unless he's willing to play for much less than $6 million, like $5.5 million less.
One evaluation of Roy Williams, this one from Mike Lombardi of The National Football Post:
"Who cares? Really, who cares? The Cowboys have to get a better player than Roy Williams at safety. He, along with Ken Hamlin, is a great liability on the third level of the defense. Williams has no market value in the NFL. In fact, he had very little market value before he signed his big contract with the Cowboys. He forces coaches to make adjustments to keep him from being on the third level, and he’s a major liability in zone or man coverage.
I know they drafted him in the first round, but the best thing Wade Phillips can do for himself as the new defensive coordinator is to let Williams go and find some players who can tackle and play in space. This is one of those decisions as a General Manager that you don’t mind making because they’re not hard to make"

why does it have the redskins fans unhappy?
With Williams gone, I'm assuming he will be, the Boys might get a safety who can actually catch and tackle a WR instead of watching them run by him. Moss always seems to have big games against the Cowboys, specifically Williams.
AH, i see!! well hopefully they will let him go & you all can move on!
This is Dallas, we can't do no drama, we can't just move on.
LOL!
good point & good frame of mind!
