What is it about Donovan McNabb? The guy was booed when he was drafted, Eagles fans wanted Ricky Williams. Rush Limbaugh uses him as an example of the media wanting a black QB to succeed so they say he's better than he is and then TO. TO made sure the world knew about McNabb losing his lunch during the deciding moments of the Eagles’ Super Bowl loss.
Then Jeff Garcia had to go and take over a 5-5 team for him in 2006 when he was hurt, promptly go 5-1, win the division and a wild card game over the Giants. Fans wondered if the Eagles made a mistake when they let Garcia go to the Bucs as a free-agent. Now long-time McNabb critic Bernard Hopkins is talking about McNabb"
From Philly.com:
“Some people are athletes, still good, but don’t have that extra ‘I’m willing to sacrifice my life. I’m willing to sacrifice what I have to sacrifice to win.,’” Hopkins said, per Philly.com’s Sheil Kapadia. “People never forgot when things happen, they see a guy crumble under pressure. Whether they throw up on the highway, whether they throw up on the court, whether they throw up on the football field, when people see that, that sticks in the back of their mind.”
“Every athlete should have that killer instinct in him, especially if you the quarterback,” Hopkins said. “If he’s not right here and here [pointing to heart and head], and don’t want it, the team feel the vibes.”
Host Ron Burke asked Hopkins specifically if he questioned McNabb's ability to take the Eagles to the promised land, and Hopkins responded, "Years ago, years ago."Hopkins went on to say that he thinks McNabb would be better off playing in Chicago, where he's from."The reason things are the way they are is because of the money wrapped in him. They can’t get rid of him," Hopkins said.
As a Cowboys fan I have nothing but respect for McNabb. Not only for his leadership on the field but also by the way he carries himself off the field. He is a leader and has been tougher than many of his peers. Has McNabb been as good as the fans or he has wanted to be? No but outside of Tom Brady what QB has been? McNabb has taken the Eagles farther than any QB since Jaws and unlike Jaws he has kept the team winning. I guess I don't understand how criticism of McNabb is national news but criticizing Andy Reid is unheard of outside the Philly area. Can I get some help from the Philly faithful...

HA! Hopkins is famous for this kinda charlie brown teacher talk!
I love donovan always have, the problem is ANDY!
Donovan has had to put up with alot of shit, he punches a clock in philly, know what i mean. it's crazy & the people calling for his head, are gonna be real sorry cuz KOLB is no where near NFL caliber material!
do i think donovan wants out of philly-yeah, because of ANDY. i think he's had enough of the coach. If andy goes 1st we have a better shot at keeping donovan.
thank u, for being a cowboys fan, that can actually converse with other fans!!
right back at ya. I watched the game Sunday night and was struck by how hard he and Westbrook have to work to carry that team. The defense does what it can but I think teams have figured Johnson out, except the Steelers, and that puts even more pressure on those two guys. I'm not sure people realize how good those guys really are they have carried that team to the success they have had.
Reid, he's a whole other blog...
As a fellow Cowboy fan I know posting about Philly must have been hard lol
I think CK is right that Reid may be the problem. He seems to choose the wrong times to start running the ball, and when to let McNabb loose. He is still a dangerous quarterback who does pretty well with some marginal receivers. I think he is more important than Westbrook, but if either goes down, this team is done.
Nice blog dude
Thanks. For some reason I've always liked DMac, he plays in a tough town that is absolutely dying for a championship and he has handled all the pressure MUCH better than most QBs.
