Peter King has a new mancrush: Brady Quinn

Peter King thankfully has moved on from Brett Favre. After years of gushing over Favre and just how great a QB he is and how he represents everything good about the NFL, King has found himself a new young QB to tell how us all just how great he is; Brady Quinn. King writes about Quinn on SI.com today and has nothing but great things to say about the former Notre Dame QB. Beware, it sounds like an article out of TeenPeople.
" Quinn's much-anticipated starting debut was ruined by an avalanche of late Denver points and a blizzard of Jay Cutler passing yards -- 447 of them. The Browns, up 13 with 21 minutes left, blew what should have been Quinn's first career win with a terrible defensive performance capped by an 11-yard touchdown pass from Cutler to Brandon Marshall against soft coverage with 74 seconds left. Denver 34, Cleveland 30."

" If not for a Winslow fumble at the Denver 38 with 13 minutes left -- the Browns' only turnover of the day -- and the strange play-calls in the final minute, Cleveland almost certainly would have scored more. And what more can you ask from your offense, particularly with a first-time starting quarterback, than 30 points and 399 yards?
Quinn led scoring drives of 59, 62, 20, 45, 64 and 78 yards. He never looked frenetic or tight, though he made three or four poor throws to open receivers. He had no trouble with the play clock, executed the plays sent in by Chudzinski without changing many, escaped the occasional blitz deftly without being sacked, and, in general, was the bright spot in yet another nightmarish 2008 ballgame.
His two touchdown passes came in the first half. Down 7-0 with four minutes left in the first quarter, Quinn took a third-and-goal snap from the Denver 5. As he was about to get slammed by defensive end Kenny Patterson from his right, Quinn threaded a line drive between two Broncos safeties cleanly into Winslow's gut for his first touchdown. On the second, from the Denver 16 early in the second quarter, Quinn found Winslow on a short out route to the left, and the tight end pivoted and sprinted into the end zone.
Quinn said the game wasn't designed to be played in safe mode. "We had some downfield plays called," he said. "But give them credit. They designed good coverage to take some of those plays away from us. I'm not going to force things downfield if they're not there, and if I've got guys open underneath."
For one night, the Quinn experiment worked, even if the team continued to betray its fans."

"He didn't have a great week of practice -- overthrowing Winslow three times in a short span Wednesday -- and certainly felt the weight of a desperate region on his shoulders as he took the field Thursday night. A baggage handler at Akron-Canton Airport on Thursday afternoon had a Quinn jersey on. The Mighty Quinn played regularly on Cleveland sportstalk station WKNR. The Plain Dealer headlined its sports section Thursday with "Time to see mighty Quinn." Two women walked from a Cleveland office building shortly after 5, one wearing a brown Browns' number 10 jersey with QUINN on the back, the other wearing a white one. As if the game needed more hype, commissioner Roger Goodell was on hand. And there was a sign in the lower bowl of the stadium that read: "Time for a change -- Obama, Quinn."

King also couldn't resist a political jab in his Quinn article.

"Quinn was as conservative as his political hero of the moment, John McCain. Like McCain in Tuesday's presidential election, Quinn lost ... and felt distraught afterward. He was an efficient 23-of-35 for 239 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions, for a rating of 104.3."
Come on Peter, it's supposed to be a sports column about the game not a Brady Quinn lovefest. What about the great performance of Jay Cutler? A Jamal Lewis sighting? Romeo Crennel throwing his defense under the bus, blaming them for the loss and forgetting to mention that the WRs and Kellen"I'm a f--kin' soldier" Winslow's drops?
