Talkin' VY

Tennessean columnist David Climer is asking just what is VY doing and more importantly, what is he learning. After a couple of excellent points about VY, Climer heads into pretty familar territory for columnists, player bashing. He points out that VY is taking reps with only the 2nd team and is listed as the #2 quarterback.

Climer then tries to play pop psychologist.
Says Climer: "These days, the most prominent questions about Young are not about his health (The knee’s fine, thank you) but about his attitude.
Specifically, fans and those in the media keep noticing Young’s conduct and body language on the sideline during games. He seems detached.
He participates in pregame warm-ups then appears to retreat into his own little world after kickoff. When the offense comes off the field, you see starter Kerry Collins huddling with offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger as they examine photos of the opposing defense that are transmitted from the press box to the sideline. No. 3 quarterback Chris Simms is an interested participant.
Young?
He’s usually found several steps away, uninvolved. He either doesn’t want to be part of the process or is not invited. And I seriously doubt it’s the latter."
I'm not a big VY fan, I think he's too inaccurate and thin-skinned right now to be a great NFL QB. But I also believe that the NFL is littered with guys who had to play through some rough patches before they understood how to be an NFL QB. More than a couple of QBs had to learn how to deal with not being the best player on the field or had to learn how to prepare before they got to be great NFL QBs.

Kerry Collins had early success then became radioactive, bouncing around the NFL before being cut by the Raiders and landing in the Titans' laps when they let Steve McNair go. McNair had to play through some tough times before he became the QB he was. If you want to talk about a QB who was tough and a leader, we can talk McNair all day. He never had the WRs and defense that the Titans have now, he had Eddie George but he never had the Chris Johnson who could get you six anytime. I'm wandering....
I don't watch VY in practice, I don't have any idea how he looks with the 2nd team if he's getting more accurate or not. I do know this, we have no idea how good or how bad VY will be until he gets the chance on the field and until he does we're all just talkin'.

I wrote most of it.
I put the columnists' stuff in quotes.
I'm not a big fan of him right now, but...he has the chance to do what Collins did, what lots of other guys have done, learn how to be a good QB and the only way we'll know if he has is when he's back on the field.
He was played way too early and no one really knows if it was Fisher's decision to play him or if it was Bud Adams'. I'm not sure if his future is here or somewhere else.
Lots of fans are saying they should just get rid of him or trade him. I'll put up some of the comments to the article on another blog, they make YB look like a genius meeting.

they make YB look like a genius meeting.

THAT is impossible!!!!!!!!! simply & without a question IMPOSSIBLE!

perhaps fisher should lay off the hair dye & go back to what has made him the coach he is: the smarts he has, specially when it comes to seasoning his team.

I am a fan of vince's & you know that, so i will never toss him under the bus. Day late & dollar short on who's to blame for playing him early....tis time to stop finger pointing & get him back to where he once was, on the field. WHEN HE IS READY!!!

I'm not trying to either, he needs to learn how to be a QB, he can be a good one.
Whether or not he's huddled around Dinger when the defense is on the field doesn't tell us anything except he's not over there.
Maybe he doesn't need to listen or maybe he's better for the team if he's over on the sideline jackassing around with other guys keeping things a little loose.
