What fans think of VY

Here are a few comments from an column in the Tennessean about VY. The columnist, David Climer, titled his column; "On the sideline, Young passes up chances to learn", so you know where the thing is going. He then lists his thoughts as to why VY isn't taking this opportunity to learn everything he can from Kerry Collins and why he seems so detached from the rest of the team. The article is typical column stuff, a few facts and the writer's thoughts meant to get people thinking or in some cases stir the pot. The comments both support VY, criticize him and more than a couple take shots at Climer. Now a sampling:

Fanof41: "While all the comments in Climer's article seem valid from an observer's point-of-view, as a "reporter" or "journalist", couldn't he have done some investigative work to see if, in fact, VY is detatched and disinterested and on the outside looking in?I'm not defending VY -- I've had the same thoughts watching the games on TV -- but it seems to me that if you have a forum and a position with a media outlet like The Tennessean, you could put your "insder" connection to good use and verify the assumption.Otherwise, this column is no more than a gussied-up blog that a pimply-faced teenager hiding out in his room could produce."

UKWildcat34:And with this article what is new ?? Young never done these things before. Not 1 time was he ever shown looking at arial shots or on the phone upstairs for any info. He throws a int he sets on the bench whining, head in hands. And this helps him in what way ?? Sorry, but todays defenses are very intricate and always changing. If Collins, Farve, Cutler, even McNabb look at defenses during the game must be something to it. During the 1st Philly- Dallas game Romo threw a int first place it showed him on the bench. Looking at aerial views of the D. VY is just a overglorified running back and always will be. I have said it before he has no pocket patience , and does not want to learn. Maybe , he can be taught maybe not. It is up to him and he is showing no drive to develop. VY fans I admire loyalty but sooner or later the obvious will have to set in . HE JUST DON"T CARE !! I will do the same off the field as I do on it, take the money and run. Climer is just calling it the way he sees it and alot of people see it the same way. VY is happy the way things are he does nothing and gets paid. VERY WELL to do NOTHING."

rshead:"Lucy said that "Charlie Brown is a blockhead, but he did pick out a nice tree." Well, Climer is still a blockhead, but he is right on about Young and his attitude in this article. Trade him and the first 3 2009 draft picks to whichever team has the first overall pick next season and draft Tim Tebow. If Tebow is ok to wait on Chris Leak for his chance, he's ok to watch Collins next year and learn the ropes. By the way, sign Collins to a 2 year contract as well."

CtheLight:"Once again Climer is up to his old VY bashing tricks to stir up public sentiment against VY. This is the exact same preseason trick that turned the public's sentiment against VY in the first place. If we recall, it was Climer and company that was 'shouting atop the Tennessean mountain' about the lack of PRESEASON touchdown passes and end zone production. This act, coupled with VY's Jacksonville game outing 'had the fans going' - HOOK, LINE and SINKER.Turn the pages to mid-season and Climer is right back at dissenscion stirring controversy. I don't know what it is that VY ever done, or did, to Climer, but I am conVinced that Climer either has it out for VY or that VY is Climer's fall guy to help sell newspaper in tough economic times.If Climer and company wants to know what VY is doing to prepare for games, the answer is simple - JUST ASK VY! Go by his home and watch game film, ask the coaching staff, etc. - anything but first throw out media barbs.Giving his mid-week evaluations, and his expert football analytical commentary, I am further conVinced that this is Climer's team."

Swoodard: "VY Stinks always has always will. Get him out while you can. Climer hit it on the head"

Volzfan: "Two of the biggest mistakes the Titans have made in the last few years (in my opinion) are:(1) Keeping Thugman Jones as long as they did. Now he's still costing us since he got the boot from the league again...(2) Drafting Vince Young. I was one of the ones that wanted us to take Jay Cutler. I was really impressed with his play skills, manners and attitude! He was used to getting killed on the field with no offense blocking for him, yet he would pick himself up and go back in! He would even hold the ball for the kicker. He was a rare "send me in Coach and I'll make the play" QB. I remember when asked what he was going to do with his signing bonus, he said he was going to buy his parents a new home for supporting him his entire life. Young said he was going to buy a car! You may say so what but I think that shows Cutler thinks of others and Young only thinks of himself....kinda like what he is doing right now!"

Jaimes31: "Vince will return and he is still destined for greatness either here or elsewhere. Its just too bad so many of you have written him off and have disdain for an individual who has never done anything to humiliate or embarass the city of Nashville. Its really sad to see all the negative comments written about someone who has had a hard time adjusting to adversity. These comments go well beyond football or any sport its not like the kid is saying f---you to the community who initially embraced him. I just don't see why the "constant" criticism is warranted. The real story should be why the major Tennesean columnist of your team has so many negative articles about a player who hasn't been played since week 1. If I subscribed to this newspaper I would be pissed that every article wasn't about my teams playoff chances, and why Haynesworth is the leagues MVP. Its one thing for us to make our silly comments, but we should expect more from a paid professional. Maybe Climer hasn't gotten over the promotion of Kuharsky to ESPN, and has now set his sights on replacing Merril Hoge by bashing his own team every chance he get."
