Raise your hand if you didn't see this coming.
The man, Corey Edmundson, who was injured in an interstate collision with Albert Haynesworth is suing the former Tennessee Titan. Edmundson is asking for $7.5 million in compensatory damages. The lawsuit also asks for punitive damages amounting to no less than 25 percent of Haynesworth's guaranteed money from Washington. He set an NFL record when guaranteed $41 million in the seven-year, $100 million contract with the Redskins that he signed Feb. 27
"In short, Haynesworth was intentionally and selfishly driving like a maniac and has wreaked havoc on the life of a 25 year old man and his family," according to the lawsuit.
Edmundson has racked up $230,000+ in medical costs so far and are expected to reach $1 million. The attorney said his client cannot work, needs a walker or cane to move around and leaves his house for physical therapy. Edmonson's parents have been helping as much as possible.
The biggest issue to Edmondson, aside from needing money to pay for all this, is the fact that Haynesworth has never tried to contact him. Edmondson attorney, Jon Perry "I'm not sure if it's a level of apathy or if he's focused on other things or if he doesn't care or if he thinks maybe it'll just go away."
I don't have a problem with Haynesworth not talking to Edmondson, he was in the middle of a criminal case at the time, was on probation for previous speeding violations and getting ready for free agency, the less he had to say about this the better. His attorney and/or his agent told him not to talk about it to anyone, whatever he said was probably going to be used against him.
My advice to Big Al, settle with the guy, you'll end up owing less and it'll be behind you.
