Donovan McNabb has spent the past 10 seasons leading the Eagles and putting up the Philly media and fans. He was the guy who Eagles fans booed when he was drafted because Eagles fans wanted Ricky (wildweedman) Williams. While Williams was imitating one of Bob Marley's kids smoking mary jane, McNabb was leading the Eagles to 5 straight playoff seasons, 2000-2004, including 4 straight NFC title games from 01-04 and advancing to the Super Bowl in 2004.
McNabb is enters his 10th season in Philly wondering yet again if he is the QB for the Eagles. After reading Mark Eckel's latest column, I can see why Donovan worries about his job in Philly.
From Eckel's column:
"We all want to be happy. Who knows if it will be me next year?"
That was the telling line.
Even though McNabb continues with his "I plan to be here a long time" and joked that he's about to sign a 10-year, $200 million extension with $40 million up front, he knows the end could be near.
Last year was going to be his last as an Eagle. He felt it the same way anyone around the team did.
He never said it out loud, but he heard same whispers everyone else heard, saw the same fingers being pointed in his direction.

Until late in the season when the Eagles realized the market for a 31-year-old quarterback with a history of injuries wasn't what they hoped it would be, and that perhaps heir apparent Kevin Kolb wasn't just quite ready yet to take over, McNabb returned for his 10th year in midnight green.
Now he's back dodging questions, like they were linebackers, and trying to make it all sound like it's 2004 again.
We need to get back to that again," he said. "A lot of people are picking us to win the NFC (East) and rightfully so. We beat Dallas last year. We should have beaten them the first time. We should have beaten the Giants twice. There's no team we can't beat."
It's right about there where the delusion set in for the quarterback.
Outside of people who work for the team, the Eagles are not being picked to win the NFC East.
Not that they can't; they're just not being picked. Most national magazines have them third or fourth, and that was before Washington acquired All-Pro defensive end Jason Taylor.
And about that game where the Eagles should have beaten Dallas? The final score was 38-17 and it was 38-10 until McNabb threw a meaningless touchdown pass to Hank Baskett with a couple minutes left.
They lost both Giants games, too, but on a day when up was down and East was West, what the heck, maybe it was the Eagles who beat New England in the Super Bowl.

Could McNabb have done more in Philly? Probably not. With all due respect to Todd Stinkston, he has had few offensive weapons to work with, no true running game to take pressure of him, and a so-so offensive line.
The only thing McNabb has had going for him in Philly, good coaching.

COWBOY! i LOVE this blog, not because it's about Donovan or my team, but because you've given a point of view that is different from others.
i was one of the rare one's who did NOT boo when we drafted donovan, i've been a fan of his since he wore orange!! (sorry joe pa).
do we appreciate him: the MAJORITY DOES, we fully understand what he's done for philadelphia, we fully understand that he is elite and in a class by himself. we fully understand that life after football for Donovan will consist of his spending long hours in his center city office, working hard for his charities.
we fully understand, that once he leaves philly, there will be MANY MANY sad people here.
i've been dubbed a donovan physcho fan, which is fine.......ppl. that have dubbed me that live in a place i call the junkyard & have many many profiles- but i digress:
am i an advocate for Donovan, YES, will i always stand by him no matter what, YES. will i always sing his praises YES. Suffice to say ALOT of us will. In the end it comes down to the legacy he has left here in Philadelphia PA, one that is far greater then some understand.
having gotten to know him, having met his familia, has truly been an HONOR.
anyone that says different cowboy, has never had the pleasure of meeting him face to face, to listen to him field STUPID questions, to listen to him talk, TO SEE A SMILE ON HIS FACE when you know he wants to round house a stupid reporter, is beyond words...........
THANK U, for this blog, YOU have made my day!!!
peace darlin

I realize that most fans do know what he's done for the Eagles. Remember when the problem was his accuracy? He was a leader but he wasn't accurate enough to lead a team? I mean come on, you haven't had to worry about who the starter would be for almost 10 years. Have any idea how many QBs teams have gone through while D Mac has been the starter in Philly? Is he the best QB in the league? Probably not but he's a helluva lot better than most of them.
he's had many issues' ~ some good, some bad. in the end, it's broken down like u said in your reply to me! the old saying "don't know what u got till it's gone" applies here for sure!
